About the Filmmakers

Wynette Yao

Director/Producer

Yao is an award-winning filmmaker who has produced, directed, and written films on subjects as wide-ranging as Egypt, bees, and bog mummies. She relishes image-making and storytelling that brings alive the human experience behind history, science, or modern life, and takes pride in directing powerful or intriguing images from behind the camera. In 2012, Yao spent a year producing for the Discovery ID series “Prison Wives.” For her, this experience was a revelation about the criminal justice system, and with her work at FAMM, she’s happy to continue telling the stories of families impacted by incarceration in this country.

Travis Edwards

Cinematographer/Editor

With work ranging from commercial to documentary to narrative, Edward’s focus has always been on the impact of storytelling through video. His award-winning work has taken him across the country and has involved everything from filming undercover in puppy mills to filming politicians in D.C. He strives to present ideas and stories through innovative and engaging content that can help improve people’s lives.

Ian McLeod

Composer

Ian McLeod is the Founder and Lead Composer of Cleod9. Based in Washington, D.C., his company features a diverse team of composers that create music & post-audio for an array of media. Over 10 years, Ian has scored award-winning documentaries, films, and commercials. His team also works with global brands such as National Geographic, Red Bull, The North Face, and PBS. Since Cleod9’s inception, Ian’s music has been featured in films that have premiered at Hot Docs, Tribeca, Austin, and Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Their latest feature films (American Horses, Miami Wild, Cowboys, The Push, and Massacre River) are now streaming on Hulu, PBS, and Amazon Prime. In 2022, Ian and his team won "Best Original Score" at the Jackson Wild Film Festival for their composing work on the feature film, Miami Wild.

Joe Wilson

Composer

Joe Wilson is a 28 year old pianist producer from the DC, Maryland Virginia area with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. A graduate of Howard University's Legendary music department, Joe uses his roots in Jazz to create unique tracks with local artists like MKZulu, AKing Kalld Pedro, Deacon Izzy, Cheakaity, TeahPearl, and many more. In addition to his production work, he's a regular performer in the DC/MD/VA area as both a pianist and Computer-based DJ; opening for legendary and upcoming acts like BeauYoungPrince, Musiq Soulchild, Omarion, and Rare Essence.
